Make An Action Movie: film your toys and friends, Mudpuppy cuts it into a real film

Lights, camera, action. Your child films short clips of toys on a mission, brothers and sisters jumping off the sofa, or friends being heroes in the garden. Mudpuppy watches every clip, keeps the most action-packed few seconds of each, writes the story order, paints a title card, composes a score and finishes with a THE END jingle. The finished film is about a minute long.

A movie can use up to ten clips. Phone videos work as they are: each clip can be up to 600 MB and ten minutes, and anything longer than three minutes is trimmed to its most exciting three minutes as it uploads. While the film is being made the page shows each stage, from watching the clips to composing the music to rolling the credits, and your child is free to go and play.

When it is ready the movie is emailed to the address on the account, with a link to watch and a link to download, and it waits in My Saves. The clips are kept for thirty days in case you want to re-edit; the finished movie stays until you delete it. If something breaks on our side, the clips are safe and the tokens come back.

What you can do

How it works

  1. Sign in as a grown-up; movies need an account so we can email the finished film.
  2. Film short bursts of action, a few seconds each, or pick clips already on the device.
  3. Press Submit my movie. The price in tokens is shown first.
  4. Open the email or My Saves to watch, download and share the movie.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?

A few minutes. The page shows each stage as it happens, and you get an email when the movie is done, so nobody has to wait by the screen.

How long is the finished movie?

About a minute. Mudpuppy keeps the best few seconds of each clip, adds the title card at the start and the THE END jingle at the end.

What are the clip limits?

Up to ten clips per movie, each up to 600 MB and ten minutes. A clip longer than three minutes is trimmed to its most exciting three minutes.

Is it safe for kids?

Yes. Mudpuppy is locked to safe-for-work content, a grown-up signs in, and the finished film goes to the grown-up's email and the family's own My Saves rather than to any public feed.

What does it cost?

The movie uses Mudpuppy tokens from the grown-up account, and the cost is shown on the Submit button before anything is spent.
