Movie Maker: kids film it, Mudpuppy turns it into a real movie

Movie Maker is where a child picks what kind of film to make. There are three choices, each shown as a big picture card so a young child can choose without reading: an action movie made from clips of toys, brothers and sisters or friends; a nature documentary made from clips of bugs, birds, rocks and puddles found outside; or the Influencer track, where a child designs a talking character and puts on their own show.

In every case the child does the filming and the deciding, and Mudpuppy does the editing. Phone videos work as they are. The action movie comes back about a minute long with a painted title card, its own music and a THE END jingle. The documentary comes back with a British narrator explaining the science of what your child found. Both land in My Saves and arrive by email, with a link to watch and a link to download.

The site is locked to safe-for-work content and cannot be switched out of it, so it is built for kids from the start, with a grown-up account behind it.

Try Movie Maker on Mudpuppy

What you can do

How it works

  1. Open Movie Maker and let your child tap the kind of film they want to make.
  2. Film short clips: toys on a mission, a beetle on a leaf, or a character for their show.
  3. Upload the clips and press the big button; Mudpuppy edits while your child goes and plays.
  4. Watch the finished film in My Saves or from the email, and download it to keep.

Frequently asked questions

What age is Movie Maker for?

It is built for children who can hold a phone steady and point it at something, roughly four and up, with a grown-up signing in. The choices are picture cards, so a child who cannot read yet can still pick.

Does my child need to edit anything?

No. The child films and chooses; Mudpuppy picks the best moments, cuts them together, adds the title, music or narration, and sends back a finished film.

What does it cost?

Movies use Mudpuppy tokens from the grown-up account, and the price is shown before you press the button. If a film fails on our side the tokens are given back.

Where do the movies go?

Into My Saves on the account, and to the account email with a watch link and a download link.
