Say what you want to make and a real coding helper builds it with you
The Coder track is vibe coding for kids. Your child holds the mascot button, says what they want to make, a game where a cat jumps over pancakes, and a real coding agent builds it. The agent is Claude Code, the same tool grown-up programmers use, running on your family computer with your own Claude plan. Mudpuppy sits between the child and the agent and translates in both directions: voice and pointing in, plain words, pictures and a running app out.
Nothing is read or typed. The child points at a thing on the screen and says what to change. Every step runs right away so they can play it, and Go back undoes the last change. Big questions about how to build it are decided by the helper; only taste questions, which color, which character, what happens next, come back to the child as pictures. When something breaks, the helper fixes it and says so in one short sentence.
It grows with the child. Pictures only at first, then labels, then a map of the project with code read aloud, then the real tools side by side. Nothing a kid can build is capped: a multiplayer game, a website for the lemonade stand, a program for a robot. A parent installs Claude Code, signs in through its own window, and approves anything that would leave the workshop folder.
What you can do
- Voice in: hold the button and say what to make, no reading or typing
- A real coding agent, Claude Code on the family computer, does the building
- Point at anything on the screen and say what to change
- Everything runs right away and Go back undoes the last change
- Taste questions come back as pictures; technical questions are decided for the child
- Disclosure levels from pictures only up to real code side by side
How it works
- Wake up the workshop: tap the big button, hold the mascot, and say what you want to make.
- Point at what you mean: tap the point button, tap the thing on screen, and say what to do with it.
- Play it, then change it. Say Go back if you do not like a change.
- Grown-ups: set up the family computer with Claude Code and your own Claude plan.
Frequently asked questions
Does my child need to read or type?
No. They talk to the mascot, point at things on the screen and pick from pictures. Text is optional for children who can read, and the interface adds labels and code as they grow.
What is actually writing the code?
Claude Code, the real coding agent professional programmers use, running unmodified on your family computer. Mudpuppy provides the kid-shaped voice and picture interface around it, not a smaller toy builder.
What does it cost?
Two things. On Mudpuppy, each thing your child asks the helper costs 1,500 tokens, 3 cents, from the grown-up's Mudpuppy account, and that covers the voice, the audio and everything else Mudpuppy does around it. The coding agent itself runs on your own Claude plan through the unmodified Claude Code binary, and Mudpuppy never bills for it or sees your login. Claude Max is recommended; Claude Pro fits about one kid session a day.
What can a kid build?
Anything the agent can build. Nothing is capped: a game, a multiplayer game with a server, a website, a bot for friends, a program for a small robot. Big projects are split into a first step and picture tiles for the rest.
What does a parent approve?
Anything that would leave the workshop folder: the internet beyond installing packages, accounts, money, deleting things elsewhere. Those requests go to the parent, and the child never sees a permission prompt.
Is the child's voice recorded?
No. Voice is streamed, never stored. The only thing kept is the project itself, on your own computer. There are no ads or trackers on the site.
